FIREBLOCK ULTRA (FBU)

How does it work? The operation of the fire damper FIREBLOCK Ultra is based on heat intumescent foam.
This process begins at a temperature of about 100 ° C,

The fire damperl FIREBLOCK ULTRA consists of a grid construction, containing heat intumescent material, encased in a steel frame . Fire Resistancy Intumescent Fire damper FIREBLOCK ULTRA is both tested by the manufacturer and TNO in accordance with the applicable standards (NEN 6069) = European standard EN 13501-2 and BS476:Part20:1987. The test report is available upon request. The results of these tests are:
- Flame resistance relative to the sealing: 240 minutes
- Thermal insulation: 130 minutes
Ambient Temperature To prevent the thermally responsive materials of prematurely beeing activated, an ambient temperature of no more then 45 ° C is recommended. Air Resistance Under normal circumstances, the fire damper FIREBLOCK ULTRA has a low flow resistance. In ventilation ducts the flow may even improve by flattening the turbulence
Velocity or Pressure The fire damper FIREBLOCK ultra grid is tested at a pressure of 20 Pa and is therefore suitable for air speeds up to 5 m / s. For higher speeds the ventilation system should be switched off. When this isn’t possible, the following alternatives can be found:

Applications of the fire damper FIREBLOCK ULTRA
The Intumescent FireBlock Ultra is applicable in every imaginable construction, for example:
1. Interior walls 2. interior doors 3. lowered ceilings 4. Perforated steel diffusers 5. Steel ventilation channels 6. Exterior walls 7. Exterior doors 8. Metal studs 9. Glass frames / Glass doors
Installation: The Intumescent fire damper FIREBLOCK ULTRA always has to be installed into the recess using steel corner profiles and fire resisting fasteners. In masonry, where the recess can not be accurately made, a wooden frame can be useful. This is even necessary, in case of a cavity wall where the cavity must be sealed.
For the final installation, especially in concrete - and / or other masonry construction, use self-tapping screw anchors. Note: Never use aluminum (melts already at 500 ° C) or plastic fasteners
Around the fire damper (and also between the modules in case of larger units) fire resistant tape should be applied, which is designed for fire sealing off the remaining gaps between block and fire surrounding structure. This band is 2 mm thick, which means that the sleeve size has to be at least 5 mm larger than the outside dimensions of the fire block.

Weight The weight of a Intumescent FireBlock Ultra is approx 20 kg / m2 Size and Shape FIREBLOCK ULTRA’s are available in rectangular or circular shapes and are available in every size, increasing per mm.
fire resistant grill FIREBLOCK ULTRA is produced with a tolerance from 0 to -/-2.5 mm. A single module size is up to 600 x 600 mm. Larger Fire Block Ultra grilles contain multiple modules. Larger Fire Block Ultra’s up to a size of 1800 x 1200 mm can be delivered as a single unit. Units larger then this size are delivered in multiple (separate) modules to be assembled on site.
Application in exterior doors and walls The FIREBLOCK ULTRA is not weatherproof. This means it has to be combined with a Weatherproof cover grille. This can be an existing cover grille, or a cover grille from the SEAC range, which are available in steel or aluminum

Application in interior walls & doors For application in interior walls and doors cover grilles are available for a nice and professional finish. Of course existing cover grilles can be used as well. Application in ventilation ducts The application in ventilation ducts is possible in steel ducts (no aluminum!). In this case It is important to know what the pressure and air velocity in the channel is (also see above chapter “Velocity or Pressure”).
Application for storage of hazardous substances
 Intumescent Fire Block ULTRA - Recemat Combination
For the application in storage rooms of hazardous substances, Seac has developed the FIRE BLOCK-RECEMAT. This consists of: 1. Fire damper FIREBLOCK ULTRA Grille 2. RECEMAT: A flame retardant element of 2 mm thick metal foam This combination is delivered fully assembled by SEAC, optionally including a weatherproof outdoor cover grill
Application with smoke control The intumescent process of the FIREBLOCK ULTRA starts with an ambient temperature of about 100 degrees, so it can take a few minutes before it’s closed. There are situations however, where an immediate closure of the opening is demanded. This is especially the case in fire compartments which are acting as escape routes. For this purpose, the FIREBLOCK ULTRA can be combined with the SEAC SMOKEGUARD.
The SEAC SMOKEGUARD is a mechanical shutter grille, specifically designed to prevent the spread of smoke gases through ventilation ducts. Similar to the FIRE BLOCK ULTRA, SEAC SMOKEGUARD can be applied in interior walls and doors, but also in an exterior application. For the actvivation (failsafe) of SEAC SMOKEGUARD, there are 3 types available: Version A: Activation by breaking of a fuse 72 º C. Version B: Through activation of smoke detection = 24V electro-magnet. Version C: Same as B, but with an additional indication light and a test button.
